Voltri Rail Connections

The railway terminal is equipped with 4 railroad cranes.

Thanks to its direct connections with the national railway network, PSA Voltri-Pra offers a wide range of connections to the industrial areas of the main Italian cities as well as Switzerland, Germany and Continental Europe, making the port a strategic gateway to reach the markets of these countries.

Moreover the PSA Voltri-Pra railway got upgraded in 2016: it saw the completion of a new railway “rerouting”, which took full advantage of its capacity, assuring more efficiency and high standard performances in intermodal operations.

The aim is to further increase the current 20% of traffic that travels on the tracks to and from the terminal. This project enabled the terminal to have with 9 inner tracks long 900 meters each, increasing the number of train couples that operate daily from the actual eleven to fifteen.

PSA Voltri-Prà railway is connected directly with the National railway network, , handling 120 trains per week and shunting up to 185.000 TEU in 2016.

The terminal is directly connected to the main hinterland cities of Northern Italy, such as: Milano, Vittuone, Arluno, Reggio Emilia, Padova, Verona and Rivalta.

Conjointly, PSA VOLTRI-Prà is able to offer a real custom “fast rail corridor” service towards some of the most important inland railway Italian junctions.

Environmental sustainability and transport efficiency have always represented two main issues of PSA Voltri-Pra developing project. With this perspective, the terminal focuses its attention on the development of an intermodal railway system, as to offer a valid future alternative to container truck transport.
